More Snow

Some frost from one of those -20C nights.

Ice Sculpture on Steel

View from our front window this a.m. - my car is just visible peeking over the snowbank.

The flare above the sun is called an 'ice pillar'. Ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere refracting the rays of the setting sun.

Great pictures, Norm. :)

We've had lots of ice pillars at sunset lately. Some after dark as well (set up from the lights in nearby towns and cities).

I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to spring.

Thanks Robin :)
Yeah, I'm about ready to wave the white flag and go find a nice warm, dark place to hibernate the rest of the season away. Spring away!!

Ice Pillars are a phenomenon I did not know about. See you learn something new every day. Great Pics Norm. Stay Warm. (ouch...rhyme was not intentional)

Thanks Kel: It's nice to be posting some pics again.

Rao: Typically that happens when it is very cold and there is high, thin cloud. Alternately at night it can appear as a ring around the moon, sometimes a double ring.

Thanks for teaching me about Ice pillars!
Kinda like aurora borealis, only different, huh?

Similar but yes, way different. Ever seen the borealis?? I've seen it maybe 10 times and it never fails but to amaze me.
There are some spectacular videos on youtube.
